After filing your application for permanent selection, you will receive a customized list of documents to provide to support your application. You will not receive this request if you and your family have already received your attestation.

Once your attestation has been received, it is valid for two years.

Who needs an attestation

As of January 1, 2020, you must demonstrate your knowledge of the democratic values and Québec values expressed in the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms if you apply to one of these programs:

  • Regular Skilled Worker Program
  • Québec Experience Program
  • Permanent immigration pilot program for workers in food processing
  • Permanent immigration pilot program for orderlies
  • Permanent immigration pilot program for workers in the artificial intelligence, information technologies and visual effects sectors
  • Entrepreneur Program
  • Self-Employed Worker Program
  • Investor Program

The members of your family who accompany you must also demonstrate their knowledge of Québec, with the exception of:

  • Dependent children under 18 years of age
  • People with a permanent physical or cognitive disability that prevents them from receiving an attestation

How to obtain your attestation, based on your status

There are two ways to obtain an attestation:

The way you obtain your attestation depends on your status in Québec and that of the family members who accompany you.

If you and all the family members who accompany you have a valid study or work permit from the Government of Canada

You can choose to attend the Objectif Intégration information session even before you file your application for permanent selection.

Otherwise, you will receive a request to obtain the attestation after you file your application for permanent selection. You will have the choice of:

You will have a maximum of 60 days to obtain your attestation after receiving the request to do so. If you do not obtain it within that time, your application will be rejected.

If you have a valid study permit from the Government of Canada, but the family members who accompany you do not

You will receive a request to obtain the attestation after filing your application for permanent selection. Your family members will have the choice of:

Your family members will have a maximum of 60 days to obtain their attestations after receiving the request to do so. If they do not obtain their attestations within that time, your application will be rejected.

If neither you nor the family members who accompany you have valid study or work permits from the Government of Canada

You will receive a request to obtain the attestation after filing your application for permanent selection. You and your family members must first complete the online assessment.

You are allowed two attempts to successfully complete the online assessment. If you and your family members fail the online assessment after the second attempt, you will have to choose between:

  • A third and final online attempt or
  • Taking part in an Objectif Intégration information session in Québec

You cannot choose both. 

You will have a maximum of 60 days to obtain your attestation after receiving the request to do so. If you do not obtain it within that time, your application will be rejected.
