Defending a case
Indicate what you intend to do
If you are the defendant, you have 20 days to indicate what you intend to do, counting from the date on which you receive the application. If you do nothing, a judgment may be rendered against you and you may be forced to pay the applicant’s claim without having a chance to give your version of the facts.
To indicate which option you have chosen, you must use the form used by defendant to indicate an option.
The options available to you are to:
- defend the case on the merits;
- file a cross-application (against the applicant);
- reach a settlement with the applicant;
- pay the amount claimed by the applicant.
