Contacting the Prosecuting Attorney dealing with your Case

Throughout the court process, you should feel free to contact the prosecuting attorney dealing with your case.

The prosecuting attorney is a lawyer working for the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (Directeur des poursuites criminelles et pénales, or DPCP).

The prosecuting attorney can answer your questions about the court process or your case in particular, and reassure you about any concerns you have about participating in the process.

Information given to victims by prosecuting attorney

If you do not have contact information for the prosecuting attorney, you can find it on the “Find a lawyer” page of the Barreau du Québec.

If you do not know the name of the prosecuting attorney dealing with your case, you should contact the nearest DPCP point of service (in French only).

Some of the information you need may be provided by a DPCP administrative staff member.

If you have spoken to a caseworker at a Crime Victims Assistance Centre (CAVAC), he or she will also be able to answer your questions.

If you want to provide more information, documents or evidence to support your case, you should contact the police department to which you reported the crime.
