Ask for psychosocial help and support after a disaster

While most people will gradually adapt to the situation, here are some indicators that it may be necessary to ask for help from a health and social services professional:

  • when your reactions remain intense and prevent you from meeting your basic needs (eating, sleeping);
  • when you have difficulty functioning normally in your daily, family and professional activities;
  • When you’re unable to recover, and you feel overwhelmed and unable to get back to your normal routine.
  • when you or your loved ones are worried about your emotional reactions (suicidal thoughts, particular behaviours, use of alcohol, drugs or medication);
