Obtaining a refund for French courses taken at a partner language school for people selected by Québec

You may be eligible under certain conditions to receive refund from the Québec government for the fees related to French courses taken at a partner language school. The maximum refund granted is CAN$1,800.

You must prepare your claim for refund before your arrival in Québec, but you will officially file your claim once you are in the province.

You can only file one application and be entitled to one refund. Advanced C-level courses of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (in French only) are not eligible for refund.

Refund is only for group courses, either in-class or through distance learning.

Conditions for obtaining refund

You can apply for refund for more than one course. To be refunded, you must meet all of the following conditions for each course:

  • You have taken and completed your course abroad:
    • During the three years prior to obtaining your Québec Selection Certificate (CSQ) or your first Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ), or
    • Between the time you obtained your CSQ or your first CAQ and your arrival in Québec;
  • You were at least 16 years old when you registered for the course;
  • You took your course during a period covered by a partnership between the language school and the Québec government;
  • You are living in Québec at the time of filing your application for refund.

You must also:

  • apply within 2 years of your arrival in Québec;
  • make a single application for reimbursement for each person.

Refund for spouse and children

Your spouse or dependent child 16 years of age or older may also be refunded under the same conditions for the fees relating to courses taken at a partner language school.

Only one claim for refund of course fees can be filed for each eligible person.

How to claim refund

The refund process takes place in two stages: first, before you arrive in Québec, and second, once you are living in Québec.

Before you arrive in Québec:

  1. Download the form Demande de remboursement des frais de cours de français à l’étranger [Application for reimbursement of the cost of French courses taken abroad – In French Only] (PDF 418 Kb);
  2. Print it out and send it in hard copy to an authorized person at the language school, or send it by email.
  3. Ask the authorized person from the language school to:
    • complete sections 2, 3 and 4 of the refund form
    • sign the form and affix the institution’s seal (electronic signature and seal are authorized);
    • provide, for each of the French courses you have taken:
      • certificate of studies proving you have taken the entire course,
      • the course transcript,
      • the receipt proving you have paid the course fees.
  4. Keep the form completed by the language school. You will need to send this copy to obtain your refund once you settle in Québec.

Once you settle in Québec:

  1. Complete section 1 of the form.
  2. Attach the documents requested in the form.

Do not send original documents, unless otherwise specified, as documents will not be returned to you.

  1. Send the form and the requested documents by mail to the following address:
