Job description

These individuals provide technical support and geological services. They work under the direction of Geologists or Geological Technologists. They work for:

  • Oil and mining companies
  • Consulting and engineering firms
  • The government
  • Manufacturing and construction companies
  • Public utilities

Main tasks

  • Participate in geological, geophysical, geochemical, hydrographic, or oceanographic surveys.
  • Prepare notes, sketches, geological maps, and cross-sections.
  • Assist in the analysis of seismic, gravimetric, logging, or other geophysical and survey data.
  • Participate in prospecting tours, exploratory drilling, and underground mine survey programs.
  • Participate in environmental audits and related environmental protection activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of rock, mineral, and metal samples.
  • Participate in the conduct of physical and chemical laboratory tests.
  • Assist in hydrogeological studies and report writing.
  • Update maps of mineral claims using a geographic system.
  • Produce cartographic products that represent geological knowledge (bedrock geology, quaternary geology, mining, mineral potential, etc.) on maps or geomatics products.

Advancement and mobility

  • There is some mobility between occupations in this group and those in geophysical technology and civil engineering.
