Job description
These individuals provide technical support and geological services. They work under the direction of Geologists or Geological Technologists. They work for:
- Oil and mining companies
- Consulting and engineering firms

Main tasks
- Participate in geological, geophysical, geochemical, hydrographic, or oceanographic surveys.
- Prepare notes, sketches, geological maps, and cross-sections.
- Assist in the analysis of seismic, gravimetric, logging, or other geophysical and survey data.
- Participate in prospecting tours, exploratory drilling, and underground mine survey programs.
- Participate in environmental audits and related environmental protection activities.
- Assist in the preparation of rock, mineral, and metal samples.
- Participate in the conduct of physical and chemical laboratory tests.
- Assist in hydrogeological studies and report writing.
- Update maps of mineral claims using a geographic system.
- Produce cartographic products that represent geological knowledge (bedrock geology, quaternary geology, mining, mineral potential, etc.) on maps or geomatics products.
Advancement and mobility
- There is some mobility between occupations in this group and those in geophysical technology and civil engineering.
