Main tasks

  • Read technical and architectural drawings, diagrams, and specifications for the work to be carried out.
  • Lay out, measure, and mark sheet metal according to drawings or templates.
  • Prepare templates using computer-aided design and drawing software packages.
  • Cut, drill, profile, or straighten sheet metal.
  • Fit and assemble sheet metal parts.
  • Install sheet metal parts according to the specifications and standards in force.
  • Grind and polish joints, fittings, and rough surfaces.
  • Inspect the quality of products and installations.

Advancement and mobility

  • Qualified Sheet Metal Workers obtain a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Examination.
  • Experience leads to supervisory positions.
  • These individuals may specialize in a variety of ways (home installation, shop fabrication, service and maintenance, etc.).
