Job description

These individuals fabricate, install, and repair a variety of components (metal frames, armatures, etc.).

Main tasks

  • Read plans and technical specifications to prepare the work to be performed.
  • Unload and place steel elements and guide the crane operator for their placement.
  • Assemble scaffolding and install lifting equipment.
  • Align and weld or bolt steel elements.
  • Assemble structural and architectural elements in precast concrete.
  • Assemble and erect prefabricated steel constructions.
  • Placing and securing rods or wire mesh in concrete forms.
  • Install decorative ironwork, stairs, railings, etc.
  • Examines structures and equipment for violations of specifications.

Advancement and mobility

  • Experience leads to supervisory positions.
  • Qualified Ironworkers obtain a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Standards Examination.
