Shippers and Receivers
Job description
These individuals ship and receive items from wholesalers and distributors. They work in:
- Shops
- Plants
- Industrial establishments
Environment
- Controlled ambient temperature
- Climatic conditions
Main tasks
- Assemble containers and crates of goods and record their contents.
- Choose the method of shipping items.
- Prepare shipping documents (loading notes, customs documents, invoices, etc.).
- Pack items for shipment and attach identification labels and shipping instructions.
- Monitor the loading and unloading of items into and out of vehicles.
- Examine merchandise received, note missing items, and return damaged items.
- Unpack, code, and distribute items to appropriate storage areas.
- Manage internal manual or computerized record keeping systems.
- Operate equipment to load, unload, transport, or store items as required.
Advancement and mobility
- Experience or additional training gives access to supervisory positions.
