Job description

These individuals organize schedules and supervise the transportation of people or goods. They are employed by road, rail, and air transport companies. They are also employed by municipal transit authorities.

Main tasks

  • Analyze various information (number of passengers, travel time, distances, staff availability, etc.).
  • Determine parameters for scheduling.
  • Develop new schedules or modify existing schedules taking into account factors affecting traffic.
  • Provide efficient service at a lower cost.
  • Assign staff to vehicles, assign routes and schedules shifts.
  • Gather data from personnel and vehicle records (hours of operation, distances, maintenance, repairs required, etc.).
  • Produce operating reports.
  • Prepare user guides and public utility information documents as required.
