Job description

These individuals prepare, modify, and sign specifications for the construction and renovation of buildings. They are self-employed or work for:

  • Architectural firms
  • Private companies
  • The government

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Climatic conditions
  • Equipment, machinery, tools
  • Uncontrolled ambient temperature

Main tasks

  • Consult with clients to identify the type and style of renovations or new construction.
  • Design commercial, industrial, institutional, agricultural, or residential buildings.
  • Plan the necessary materials, costs, and construction schedules.
  • Prepare the design and preliminary plans.
  • Prepare and supervise the execution of drawings, descriptive specifications, sketches, and models for contractors and trades personnel.
  • Prepare tenders, participate in contract negotiations, and award construction contracts.
  • Monitor construction site activities to ensure compliance with contract documents.
  • Carry out feasibility studies and financial analyses of construction projects.
  • Coordinate the work of those involved in the construction or modification of a building during architectural work.
  • Work with respect for the environment, the protection of property, the sustainability of heritage, and economic efficiency.
