Robotics Engineers
Job description
These individuals design industrial robots and equipment in order to automate a process or task. They install, modify, test, and check the operation of robotic systems. The seek out the cause of failures and carry out maintenance work. They modify some systems in order to improve performance. They coordinate and supervise personnel in design and manufacturing departments. They work for:
- The aeronautics, aerospace, and transportation manufacturing industries
- Industrial automation and medical imaging systems manufacturers
- Industrial maintenance companies
- High-tech firms and telecommunications companies
- Consulting engineering firms
Environment
- Controlled ambient temperature
- Equipment, machinery, tools
Main tasks
- Determine the goals and automation needs of a company.
- Evaluate bids for construction or maintenance work on industrial robotics systems.
- Coordinate and manage the operations as well as the financial and material resources of a design or assembly department.
- Design various robotics systems (biomedical instruments, IT security equipment, artificial intelligence systems, etc.).
- Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and diagrams.
- Simulate, characterize, and model processes when developing new products and robotic devices.
- Draft reports.
- Conduct feasibility studies for the design of robotic systems.
Advancement and mobility
- There is a very high mobility between robotics engineering specializations and other engineering disciplines (civil, electrical, chemical, etc.).
- Experience leads to senior or supervisory positions.
- These individuals may work in related fields (science, engineering, sales, marketing, management, etc.).
