Job description

These individuals balance ventilation and air conditioning systems. They adjust the volumes of air flowing into and out of buildings. Their work ensures good air quality and a comfortable room temperature. They work in:

  • Hospitals
  • Office buildings
  • Private residences
  • Institutions (schools, hospital centres, etc.)
  • Commercial and industrial establishments

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Climatic conditions
  • Equipment, machinery, tools
  • Nontoxic dust
  • Uncontrolled ambient temperature
  • Fire, steam, hot surfaces
  • Electricity

Main tasks

  • Evaluate fan performance.
  • Measure the flow rate of air diffusers.
  • Ensure that mechanical equipment works properly.
  • Submit recommendations to customers.
  • Assemble and adjust measuring devices for airflow, temperature, humidity, pressure, and speed.
  • Install gas measuring devices and coloured ribbons to indicate hazards.
  • Erect scaffolding and climb ladders.
  • Read technical documents on systems to be balanced.
