Job description

These individuals provide technical services in the design, production, and operation of electrical equipment. They are employed by:

  • Electrical material and equipment manufacturers
  • Electric utility, engineering, and communications companies
  • The government

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Equipment, machinery, tools
  • Electricity

Main tasks

  • Participate in the design and adjustment of components, assemblies, equipment, and systems.
  • Conduct life cycle testing of components and analyze results.
  • Assist in the construction and testing of prototypes.
  • Conduct applied research under the direction of Researchers or Engineers.
  • Install, operate, and maintain equipment and systems and evaluate the performance of components.
  • Calibrate electrical components and instruments according to technical manuals.
  • Collect data to assist in the preparation of estimates and reports.

Advancement and mobility

  • Experience leads to management positions.

Training and requirements

Formation

Bachelor’s degree or diploma of college studies

Sometimes required

  • Knowledge of several PLC programming languages is often required.
