Job description

These individuals accompany persons with mobility impairments related to a physical or intellectual disability. They help them move around on foot or use various types of transportation (train, adapted vehicles, public transit, etc.). They ensure these persons can safely and comfortably travel to their daily activities and social engagements.

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Vehicle or passenger compartment

Main tasks

  • Pick up the client at their home.
  • Provide transportation for the individual using their own vehicle or the vehicle of the person being accompanied.
  • Accompany a senior citizen to a medical appointment.
  • Assist a disabled person with their daily errands.
  • Accompany a child with reduced mobility to their recreational activities.

Advancement and mobility

  • There is some mobility among the occupations in this group.

Training and requirements

Formation

Sometimes required

  • A Class 5 driver's licence is usually required.
  • Training in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) may be required.
  • Training in principles for moving clients safely (PDSB) may be required.
  • Training in care of the elderly, disabled, or convalescent may be required.
