These individuals select, enrich, organize, and preserve a library’s collections. They may also advise clients.

Main tasks
- Recommend the acquisition of print, audio-visual, digital, and interactive materials.
- Select, file, catalogue, and purge library materials.
- Prepare tools (bibliographies, recommendation lists, guides, etc.) to facilitate research.
- Develop systems of access to library collections.
- Research references for clients.
- Coordinate interlibrary loans.
- Develop classifications.
- Offer specialized services for various clienteles.
- Facilitate information and orientation sessions and conduct guided tours.
- Supervise staff.
