Job description

These individuals ensure the safety and comfort of passengers on planes and boats. They work for:

  • Airlines
  • Tourist agencies
  • Cruise lines

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Climatic conditions
  • Vehicle or passenger compartment
  • Hazardous workplaces
  • Noise
  • Vibration

Main tasks

Flight Attendants (air transport)

  • Welcome passengers.
  • Explain and demonstrate emergency procedures.
  • Check the general condition of cabins and ensure that all necessary supplies are present.
  • Ensure the safety of passengers during takeoff and landing.
  • Serve meals and drinks to passengers.
  • Broadcast messages during the flight.
  • Assist passengers and crew members in case of emergency.
  • After landing, tidy up the cabin, and check if there are any forgotten items.
  • Prepare flight reports.
  • Keep a record of drinks and meals served.

Pursers and Passenger Service Directors

  • Direct the work of the Attendants.
  • Ensure the provision of services to passengers during the flight.
  • Answer passenger questions and manage complaints, as required.
  • Check supplies.
  • Fill out reports.

Ship Pursers

  • Direct the work of Cabin Attendants and prepare entertainment for passengers.
  • Hire crew and maintain payroll records.
  • Help passengers prepare their customs declarations.
  • Answer passenger questions and manage complaints, as required.
  • Check supplies.
  • Oversee the stowage of luggage.

Cabin Attendants (maritime transport)

  • Welcome passengers.
  • Inform customers about the activities and services offered on board.
  • Explain and demonstrate emergency procedures.
  • Serve food and beverages to passengers.

Advancement and mobility

  • Experience leads to supervisory positions.
