Job description

These individuals make and install objects made of sheet metal (eavestroughs, siding, etc.). They install and repair ventilation, air conditioning, and air heating systems. They may be involved in the residential, industrial, commercial, institutional, and construction sectors. They work for:

  • Tin workshops
  • Businesses specializing in: o Manufacturing sheet metal o Metal installation o Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems

  • Equipment, machinery, tools
  • Nontoxic dust
  • Uncontrolled ambient temperature

Main tasks

  • Interpret plans and technical specifications.
  • Select appropriate materials.
  • Make drawings.
  • Bend and cut metal.
  • Assemble the components mechanically or thermally.
  • Maintain equipment and machine tools.

Advancement and mobility

  • Qualified Tinsmiths receive a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Examination.
