Job description
These individuals shape, assemble, test, and maintain boilers, vats, and tanks. They work for:
- Boilermaking workshops
- Industrial and manufacturing facilities
- Shipyards
- Construction companies
- Power generation plants
Environment

Main tasks
- Read drawings or technical specifications to plan the workflow.
- Draw bending and cutting lines on sheet metal.
- Set up and operate metalworking machines to cut, shape, and form parts.
- Make, fit, and weld parts to form tanks, vats, pipes, etc.
- Construct, install, repair, and maintain heavy metal products (e.g. boilers).
- Direct personnel (e.g. crane operators) during the installation and repair of metal structures.
- Inspect completed structures for quality assurance.
Advancement and mobility
- These individuals can specialize in various ways (assembly, lifting, setting up, assembly, etc.).
- Qualified Boilermakers receive a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Examination.
- Experience leads to supervisory positions.
- Welding qualifications may be obtained from the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB).
