Job description

These individuals install and repair piping in installations containing steam, air, or gas under pressure. They are employed in the oil, gas, and mining industries. They also work for specialized construction contractors.

Main tasks

  • Read and interpret pressure vessel plans.
  • Prepare, cut, and weld pipes.
  • Clean and prepare surfaces to be welded.
  • Repair pressure vessel components.
  • Comply with safety and quality standards and regulations.

Advancement and mobility

  • Qualified High Pressure Welders receive a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Standards Examination.
  • Experience leads to supervisory positions.

Training and requirements

Formation

Most training programs are offered in French only.

Secondary

STC in soudage semi-automatique GMAW et FCAW
Code : 4250

Also required

  • Occupation Certificate of Competence required to work on construction sites.

Sometimes required

  • A Class A Pressure Welder Certificate may be required.

WAP
