Job description

These individuals install, test, maintain, and repair telecommunications equipment (e.g. telephones).

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Equipment, machinery, tools
  • Electricity

Main tasks

Telephone Installation and Repair Workers

  • Install and maintain telephone equipment, cables, and related hardware.
  • Check the installed telephone networks for transmission interruptions.
  • Repair or replace defective or damaged telephones, cables, and equipment.

Switched Network Installation and Repair Workers

  • Install, inspect, and test systems, circuits, and equipment in switching centres.
  • Analyze the test results.
  • Resolve problems or repair faulty systems, networks, and equipment.

Telecommunications Services Auditors

  • Test customer lines and equipment, complete reports, and maintain records.
  • Establish the nature, cause, and location of the failures.
  • Send appropriate repair personnel.
  • Assist repair personnel with their tasks as required.

Telecommunication Equipment Technicians

  • Install, remove, maintain, and inspect telecommunications equipment.
  • Configure operating systems and install Internet access software.
  • Diagnose and identify hardware failures and replace or repair defective equipment.
