Job description

These individuals supervise and coordinate Machine Operators who process and manufacture metals and ores. They are employed by:

  • Copper, lead, zinc, and precious metals refining plants
  • Uranium and ore processing plants
  • Cement manufacturing plants
  • Clay, glass, and stone factories and foundries
  • Steel mills
  • Aluminum smelters

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Odours
  • Radiation
  • Noise
  • Fire, steam, hot surfaces

Main tasks

  • Supervise and coordinate personnel who process and transform ores and metals (processing, mould making, stone forming, etc.).
  • Establish work methods to meet deadlines and coordinate work with other sections.
  • Order materials and supplies.
  • Solve work-related problems and recommend measures to increase productivity.
  • Manage and train staff.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety standards.
  • Draft reports.
  • Adjust machinery and equipment, as required.
