Assistance of the Central Authority for Québec

Acting as the Central Authority for Québec, the Gouvernement du Québec is responsible for the administration of the Act respecting the civil aspects of international and interprovincial child abduction.

The Act gives effect to the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.

The Gouvernement du Québec can intervene in certain cases and under certain conditions when:

• a child residing in Québec has been removed or retained outside Canada (in one of these States )
• rights of access must be organized or secured for a child residing outside Canada (in one of these States )
• a child residing outside Canada (in one of these States ) has been abducted and is located in Québec. For more information, contact the Central Authority for your State .

However, the Gouvernement du Québec cannot intervene when a child who habitually resides in Québec has been abducted and is located in:

• Québec
• another Canadian province
• a State not on this list .

Depending on the case, you should contact the local police, an aid agency, a lawyer or the Vulnerable Children’s Consular Unit  at Global Affairs Canada for assistance.
