Courts and Tribunals of Québec

Municipal courts

Municipal courts have limited jurisdiction in civil matters, exercised mostly in connection with municipal tax claims. There are municipal courts located throughout Québec.

Court of Québec

The Court of Québec has jurisdiction in civil, criminal, and penal matters. It also hears applications concerning the adoption or emancipation of a child.

Superior Court of Québec

The Superior Court has jurisdiction throughout Québec and sits in all judicial districts.

Court of Appeal

The Court of Appeal is the general appeal court for Québec and as such is the province's highest court.

Human Rights Tribunal

This court hears disputes relating to discrimination, harassment, exploitation of elderly or disabled people and access to equality.

Professions Tribunal

This court is an appeals body, specializing in professional matters (disciplinary questions or certain administrative decisions).

Administrative Tribunal of Québec

The Administrative Tribunal of Québec is a tribunal of last instance. Therefore, its decisions cannot be contested before another court.
