Virtual hearings make it possible for certain matters to be heard by a judge without requiring the parties to be present at the courthouse. Some hearings can also be held in semi-virtual courtrooms, meaning that one or several participants authorized by the court are present in the physical courthouse while others attend remotely.
Virtual or semi-virtual hearings can be accessed through a secure platform with a computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone or videoconferencing system. This platform requires an Internet connection. It is also possible to attend these hearings by telephone.
Rolls for virtual or semi-virtual hearings will be posted on the website of the courts of Québec. Anyone wishing to consult them or attend a hearing can visit http://roles.tribunaux.qc.ca and submit a request using the provided form.
Journalists wishing to attend a closed hearing must mention that they are journalists in their request and include their professional contact information. Notaries, lawyers and students-at-law must provide the following information to confirm their capacity: their last name, first name and the professional address they declared to the Barreau du Québec or the Chambre des notaires du Québec, as the case may be. Parties involved in a matter should not submit a request to attend a virtual hearing. They will be sent access codes and connection instructions directly by court office staff.
Anyone attending a hearing conducted through technological means agrees to follow applicable video and audio recording rules. Virtual and semi-virtual hearing participants are also expected to conduct themselves as they would during in-person hearings. Please consult the user guide for more information.
For greater efficiency, WebRTC has been replaced by Microsoft Teams for virtual and semi-virtual hearings.
