Forest fires
How to prepare for a forest fire
There are several simple actions you can take to be better prepared in the event of a forest fire and to avoid causing a forest fire while participating in outdoor activities.
Putting together an emergency kit and preparing an emergency plan for the entire family
In an emergency situation, rescue teams may experience a delay in making their way to your area. In such a case, you will need to take steps to remain safe. You must be ready to stay at home while seeing to your safety and well-being. You should, however, also be ready to leave quickly if necessary.
Stay informed and connected during an emergency situation
Remain aware of any changes to the circumstances and of all instructions in effect in your area. You can do this by:
- checking your municipality and Urgence Québec’s social network pages (Facebook, Instagram);
- subscribing to citizen alert services on your municipality’s Web site;
- listening to local television and radio stations.
Adopting the right communication habits is essential. Whether it be to issue a danger warning, reassure loved ones or post information on social media, every action taken during an emergency is significant.
Taking precautions to prevent forest fires while participating in outdoor activities
Always adhere to municipal regulations regarding open fires, and never smoke while in or near a forest.
