Applying for admission to part-time French courses for immigrants
You must be available to start your course when you apply for admission. Your course can start at any time of the year.
Information to provide
To apply for admission to a part-time French course, you must provide one of the following documents:
- A document proving your immigration status;
or
- Your individual reference number. You can find it on one of these documents:
- Your Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ);
- Your Certificate of acceptance from Québec (CAQ);
- Your Asylum seeker document;
- Acknowledgement of receipt of your refugee claim or a notice to appear for an interview for your refugee claim issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada;
- Any other personal communication sent by the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration.
To apply for financial assistance for the care of your children or disabled dependents, you will need your Social Insurance Number (SIN). To obtain a Social Insurance Number, visit the Service Canada website.
If you do not have a social insurance number, you will need:
- Your Individual Tax Number (ITN);
or
- Your Temporary Tax Number (TTN);
It is a 9-digit number, provided by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
In the application form, you will need to indicate your preferred training location. You can consult the map of educational institutions that offer part-time French courses to find a location near you.
Fill out the online application form
To apply for admission to a part-time course:
- Click the “Access the admission platform” button at the bottom of the page to access the admission platform (in French only).
- Click on the button “Cours de français à temps partiel pour les personnes immigrantes et canadiennes de naissance” (Part-time French courses for immigrants and Canadian-born individuals).
- Create an account on the Apprendre le français (Learn French) platform. If you already have an account, log in to it. If you have an Arrima account, you must use the same credentials to log in.
- Click on "Créer un nouveau dossier" (Create a new application) on your account home page and select "Demande d'admission à un cours de français à temps partiel et à l'aide financière pour les personnes immigrantes" (Application for admission to a part-time French language course and financial assistance for immigrants).
- Complete the application for admission to a part-time French course for immigrants.
You will be able to save your application and complete it through more than one visit should you need to make any changes before submitting it.
You can view help capsules designed to make your experience on the Apprendre le français (Learn French) platform easier. You will also have access to courtesy translations of the application forms.
Should you need assistance in completing your application, you may contact the training location where you wish to study, or a supporting organization.

Processing time
Courses generally begin within 70 working days if this is your first application to a part-time French course.
The period starts on the working day following receipt of your application form by the Ministère de l'Immigration, de la Francisation et de l'Intégration (MIFI).
Your course may also begin before the end of this period.

If you prefer to start right away, you could take a fully online course starting at the intermediate level.
Authorization
If you wish to allow a person (whether belonging to an organization or not) to have access to information concerning your application for admission to a French course or to allow that person to act on your behalf in connection with an application for a French course, you must complete the following authorization: Authorized person or Proxy – Francisation Québec (PDF 220 Kb).
