Financial assistance for childcare costs for your children or disabled dependents for part-time French courses for immigrants

The Québec government may provide financial assistance to help cover the cost of daycare for your children or disabled dependents.

It is recommended that you apply for financial assistance at the beginning of the session.

You have 60 days after the start of the session to apply for financial assistance.

If you qualify for financial assistance, you must declare the payments received as part of your annual income tax return to both Revenu Québec and the Canada Revenue Agency. You will receive tax information slips for this purpose. Please note that we do not withhold income tax at source.

Financial assistance for the care of children or disabled dependents

You can receive $9 for each child you need to care for in order to participate in a class of three hours or more. To qualify for this financial assistance, you must take at least four (4) hours of French classes per week.

You can also apply for this financial assistance for the care of disabled dependents.

To apply for financial assistance for the care of your children and disabled dependents, use the same form you used to apply for admission to the courses.

You must answer "Oui" (Yes) to the question: « Demandez-vous une aide financière pour la garde de vos enfants ou de personnes handicapées à votre charge ? » ("Are you applying for financial assistance for the care of your children or disabled dependents?")

For each child or disabled dependent, you must indicate:

  • First name;
  • Date of birth;
  • Day-care centre attended.

You will need to keep this information current in your file.

If your spouse is also taking a French course, only one parent can receive childcare assistance.

To find a childcare service, consult the List of available childcare centres (CPE) and daycare centres.

You are not eligible to receive this financial assistance if:

  • The person who is looking after your child is your spouse or a member of your family;
  • you have a refugee claim under analysis by the Government of Canada;
  • You or your spouse are already receiving this type of financial assistance.
