Training options for a Semiskilled Trade
Training for a semiskilled trade or an unskilled occupation in adult general education
The Sociovocational Integration Program is designed for learning semiskilled trades or unskilled occupations in adult general education. It helps adult learners, among other things, develop their employability and employment integration skills.
Enrolment
Students interested in training for a semiskilled trade or an unskilled occupation must first contact their school service centre or school board. They are then directed toward one of the two training options, depending on their needs, their interests and the admission requirements of each program.
For more information, contact your adult education centre (in French only).
Obtaining a certificate
The Training for an Unskilled Occupation and the Training for a Semiskilled Occupation courses in the Sociovocational Integration Program lead to a Training Certificate in Sociovocational Integration of Adults (TCSIA) or a Training Certificate for a Semiskilled Trade (TCST), respectively.
Training Certificate in Sociovocational Integration of Adults (TCSIA)
To obtain a Training Certificate in Sociovocational Integration of Adults, the adult learner must:
- have successfully completed the presecondary language of instruction, mathematics and second language programs
- have successfully completed a minimum of 900 hours of sociovocational integration training
Training Certificate for a Semiskilled Trade (TCST)

Bridges between training programs
In adult general education, two bridges facilitate the transition from one program of study to another under certain conditions:
- the TCST-DVS Bridge
- the TCST-STC Bridge
The TCST-DVS Bridge
This bridge enables students who have obtained a Training Certificate for a Semiskilled Trade (TCST) to access certain programs leading to a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS).
To be admitted, the adult learner must:
- be at least 16 years of age on September 30 of the school year during which they begin their vocational training
- hold a Training Certificate for a Semiskilled Trade (TCST)
- have obtained the required credits in language of instruction, second language and mathematics in Secondary Cycle One in general education in the youth sector or in Secondary II in adult general education
To find out the programs leading to a DVS that are accessible through this bridge, consult the Vocational Training Services and Programs of Study document (PDF 1.61 Mb) (in French only).
The TCST-STC Bridge
This bridge enables students who have obtained a Training Certificate for a Semiskilled Trade (TCST) to access a program leading to a Skills Training Certificate (STC).
It is possible that certain programs leading to a STC require additional specific admission requirements, such as a driver’s licence.
To find out which programs leading to a STC are accessible through this bridge, consult the Skills Training Certificate (STC) page.
