Silviculture Workers

Job description

These individuals help ensure the conservation and renewal of forests by carrying out various silviculture treatments (drainage, pruning, etc.). They plant young trees in reforestation areas using the appropriate tools. They care for trees and shrubs in forests and private woodlots. They work for:

  • Forestry cooperatives
  • Forestry industry companies

Main tasks

  • Plan the areas to be processed and identify the tools to be used according to the work planned.
  • Carry out site clearing and preparation work.
  • Clear out brush from defined areas.
  • Control the growth of weeds and undergrowth.
  • Use and maintain a variety of silvicultural equipment (chainsaws and brush cutters).
  • Collect seed cones.
  • Evaluate the health and quality of trees using various tests or procedures.
  • Help fight forest fires (dig trenches, cut trees, etc.).

  • Additional training leads to senior positions.
