Nursery and Greenhouse Workers

Job description

These individuals take care of trees, shrubs, flowers, and plants. They plant, grow, and harvest them and then serve the customers. They work in nurseries and indoor and outdoor greenhouses.

Main tasks

  • Prepare the soil and plant bulbs, seeds, and cuttings.
  • Graft and bud plants.
  • Transplant seedlings (flowers, trees, shrubs) and rooted cuttings.
  • Spray the plants to protect them from diseases and insects.
  • Position and adjust irrigation systems in greenhouses and outdoors.
  • Prepare plants for sale.
  • Educate customers on gardening techniques and plant and lawn care.
  • Fertilize, cultivate, and harvest fields and plants as required.
  • Clean work areas, maintain inventory, and order supplies as required.

Advancement and mobility

  • Experience leads to supervisory positions.
