Line Workers
Job description
These individuals install or repair power lines and transformers. They are employed by companies specializing in line installation or by utilities.

Main tasks
- Erect structures required for cable installation.
- Insulate conductors and related wires.
- Maintain and operate a service vehicle as required.
- Perform work from a boom elevator.
- Install components (conductors, supports) on the overhead and underground electrical network.
- Read plans and technical manuals.
Advancement and mobility
- Qualified Line Workers obtain a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Standards Examination.
- Experience leads to supervisory positions.
Training and requirements
Formation
Most training programs are offered in French only.
Secondary
Sometimes required
- A Class 3 driver’s licence is often required.
- A certificate of qualification may be required.
