Main tasks
- Read technical and architectural drawings, diagrams, and specifications for the work to be carried out.
- Lay out, measure, and mark sheet metal according to drawings or templates.
- Prepare templates using computer-aided design and drawing software packages.
- Cut, drill, profile, or straighten sheet metal.
- Fit and assemble sheet metal parts.
- Install sheet metal parts according to the specifications and standards in force.
- Grind and polish joints, fittings, and rough surfaces.
- Inspect the quality of products and installations.
Advancement and mobility
- Qualified Sheet Metal Workers obtain a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Examination.
- Experience leads to supervisory positions.
- These individuals may specialize in a variety of ways (home installation, shop fabrication, service and maintenance, etc.).
