Notice of closure of inventory

Once the inventory is complete, the liquidator must register a notice of closure in the Register of Personal and Movable Real Rights (RDPRM). This notice (and not the content of the inventory) serves, among other things, to inform creditors, heirs and other interested persons of the progress of the settlement of the succession. They can then consult the inventory and take any necessary steps.

Before starting, make sure you have the following information on hand.

The deceased:

  • Last name, first name and date of birth
  • Address where the inventory can be consulted

You must complete a form and pay a 59$ fee. You must file the form and mail it or bring it to the RDPRM in person to publish your rights.

The liquidator must inform the following persons of the registration of the notice of closure and place where the inventory can be consulted:

  • heirs;
  • successors who have not yet accepted or refused the succession;
  • legatees by particular title;
  • creditors.

If this can be done easily, the liquidator will send them a copy of the inventory.

The liquidator must also have a notice of closure of inventory published in a newspaper distributed in the locality where the deceased had a last known address.

This notice must state:

  • the deceased’s identity;
  • the place where interested parties can go to consult the inventory.
