Flooding
Safety instructions during flooding
During flooding, follow safety instructions to ensure your safety and that of your loved ones. Evacuation notices can be issued for the public or a business. Always comply with the instructions and recommendations transmitted by the authorities.
Instructions in the event of evacuation
If an evacuation notice is issued for your area, leave your home and follow the instructions of on-site interveners.
Take essential items for you and your family such as medications, hygiene items, extra clothing, money, and ID.
Put your domestic pets in a safe place (in French only) or take them with you to the temporary accommodation centre if it is allowed.
Inform your loved ones and your municipality of where you have sought shelter.
It should be noted that the authorities engage in regular active surveillance in the evacuated sectors to ensure the safety of the site.
To obtain additional information on the steps to take in the event of an evacuation and procedures to be followed to protect your animals, consult the Evacuate your home page.
Travel safely
Avoid travelling on foot, by bicycle, or in a vehicle in the flooded areas. Submerged objects such as a swimming pool or an open utility hole can be especially dangerous or even lead to drowning.
If you must use a vehicle, drive carefully and do not hesitate to abandon it if the engine stalls.
Before setting out, find out about road conditions by consulting the Québec 511 site or by calling 511.
Abide by the directional signs and the security perimeters established by the authorities, especially in the vicinity of the flooded sectors, regardless of the means of transportation used.
Make sure that your emergency kit for the car is complete and is stored in the trunk.
Inform your loved ones of travel and the route that you are taking.
Stay informed and connected during flooding
Regularly consult your municipality’s website and social media accounts to take stock of the situation and the instructions in force in your sector.
