Job description

These individuals sell flowers and natural, dried, or artificial plants in commercial establishments. They design original and aesthetic floral arrangements. They advise their customers on purchases and provide information on how to care for plants. They take care of the flowers and plants available for purchase in the store. They work in:

  • Flower shops
  • Greenhouses
  • Nurseries
  • Floral departments in department stores

Environment

  • Equipment, machinery, tools
  • Hazardous chemical
  • Uncontrolled ambient temperature

Main tasks

  • Grow various types of plants (annual and cut flowers, green plants, perennials and flowering plants, etc.).
  • Grow and care for plants in planters.
  • Manage the merchandise, inventory, and orders.
  • Arrange the plants and other merchandise in a visually pleasing way.
  • Make creative floral arrangements.
  • Answer questions from clients and recommend complementary products.
  • Receive payments and manage the cash register.

Advancement and mobility

Experience or additional training leads to supervisory positions.
