Temporary foreign workers: your employment rights and obligations

As a temporary foreign worker, you have the same labour rights and obligations as all workers in Québec.

The Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST) is a government organization responsible for ensuring the application of Quebec's labour laws with regard to labour standards, pay equity and occupational health and safety.

You can find a lot of helpful information on the CNESST website. In particular, the section Je suis une ou un travailleur étranger temporaire that presents your labour rights and obligations and lists relevant publications, such as What You Need to Know About Employment (also available in French and Spanish).

For agricultural workers, publications regarding  Agricultural labour standards in Québec and Prevention measures for the main hazards in the agricultural sector are also available in French and Spanish.

In addition, Québec’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms protects your fundamental rights and prohibits discrimination. To find out more, visit the website of the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse (CDPDJ).
