Job description

These individuals enforce provincial laws and municipal by-laws in various sectors (zoning, commercial transport, garbage collection, etc.). They may specialize in the enforcement of a specific regulation. They work for provincial government agencies and municipal governments.

Main tasks

Animal Control Officers

  • Respond to complaints about stray pets and livestock or wild animals on the loose.
  • Issue warnings and fines to owners.
  • Impound stray and dangerous animals.

By-law Enforcement Officers

  • Enforce municipal by-laws and provincial regulations.
  • Investigate complaints.
  • Issue warnings and fines to offenders.

Commercial Transportation Inspectors

  • Check commercial vehicles to ensure compliance with regulations.

Garbage Collection Inspectors

  • Investigate complaints of violations of the household garbage collection by-law.

Liquor Permit Inspectors

  • Inspect licensed establishments.
  • Inform permit holders of laws and regulations.
  • Report violations to provincial alcohol boards and agencies.

Parking Enforcement Officers

  • Enforce parking regulations on streets, roads, and on municipal and private property.

Taxi Inspectors
