Reporting a Change in Your Situation as the Recipient of a Social Assistance Program

You must notify the Ministère de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale when there is a change in your personal or family situation. This change could affect the amount of your benefit or your eligibility for financial assistance.

Examples of changes to report

Here are some examples of changes that you must report:

Changes concerning the people who live with you:

  • The arrival or departure of your spouse
  • An increase or decrease in the number of dependent children
  • The completion of a dependent child’s education
  • The arrival or departure of an adult other than your spouse to or from your residence

Changes concerning your resources:

  • the start or end of employment
  • an increase or decrease in income
  • the purchase or sale of goods (house, car, valuable items, etc.) (this situation does not apply to Aim for Employment Program participants)

Other changes in your situation:

  • a change of address
  • a stay outside Québec
  • a return to school or a change in the number of course hours

Report a change to the Ministère

There are four ways to notify the Ministère of a change in your situation:

  • By phone
  • In person at a Services Québec office
  • By mail
  • Online

You can notify the Ministère of a change in your personal or family situation by calling the Centre de communication avec la clientèle.

Report a change to the Ministère online

You can report any changes in your situation using My Account – Employment Assistance – Social Assistance to complete the online form or submit a document related to a change.

Report a change by mail or in person

You can go to a Services Québec office to complete the following form:

You can also print it, fill it out and mail it or bring it to a Services Québec office. You can also attach any other documents related to the change.

Provide information about your residence or housing

In some cases, you will have to provide information about your residence or housing. The Ministère may ask you for information about:

  • Your status (homeowner, tenant, tenant in subsidized housing, etc.)
  • Your housing-related costs
  • The people who live with you

Notice of move

If you are moving, you must notify us of your moving date, your new address and the reason for the move. You can use the Service québécois de changement d’adresse or complete this form:

Proof of residence

You may need to provide proof of residence if you have not signed a lease and your financial assistance officer needs to update your housing information.

In that case, you will have to ask your landlord or lessor (the person renting you the dwelling or room) to fill out this form:
