Paying a debt if you are still receiving financial assistance from the Ministère de l'Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale
If you cannot pay the full amount, the payment will be made through deductions from your benefits when applicable to
- the Social Assistance Program
- the Social Solidarity program
- Public employment services
- the Basic Income Program
- the Québec Parental Insurance Plan
No deductions will be made from the benefits under the Aim for Employment Program.
Even if deductions are made from your benefits, some or all of the amounts you receive from Revenu Québec can also be used to pay your debt.
Making a false statement
There may be consequences for making a false statement. See the section False declaration.
Reduction of benefits under the Social Assistance Program, Social Solidarity Program or Basic Income Program
The deducted amounts are as follows:
- Without a false declaration: $56 per month
- With a false declaration: $112 per month
- With several false declarations: $224 per month
However, the amount withheld may not exceed 50% of the benefit paid.
If you are a special case, the deduction amounts are $22 per month.
The following persons fall into the category of special cases:
- Persons receiving benefits from the Social Assistance Program
- Persons housed or placed in a foster home
- Persons whose spouse is a student
- Persons obliged to stay in an institution to help them reintegrate into society
- Persons under 18 with a dependent child and living in an institution
Reduced employment assistance benefits
The deducted amounts are as follows:
- Without a false declaration: $13 per week
- With a false declaration: $26 per week
- With several false declarations: $52 per week
Reduced benefits under the Québec Parental Insurance Plan
The deducted amounts are as follows:
- Without a false declaration: 20% of the net amount of the benefit
- With a false declaration: 50% of the net amount of the benefit
