Identifying situations of financial mismanagement or abuse
You must take immediate action to stop the person who is perpetrating the financial mismanagement or abuse. As a tutor or the tutorship council, you must do this when you witness or are informed of such a situation involving the represented person.
sudden withdrawal of large amounts of money from the represented person’s bank account or an increase in the number of bank transactions;
sudden changes to important documents (ownership deeds);
fraudulent investments;
depriving the represented person of essential care;
signs of injuries or burns on the represented person;
fear of speaking openly by the represented person.
Filing a report with the Curateur public
Filing a report essentially involves notifying the Curateur public of a situation that could pose a threat to the safety and well-being of a person under tutorship or cause damage or harm to their property. As the tutorship council, you must bring such situations to the attention of the Curateur public.
A report may also be filed by someone close to the represented person or by an organization. The Curateur public will process any reports it receives concerning represented persons.
