Tutorship to a person of full age
In case of abuse in a tutorship to a person of full age
Identifying situations of financial mismanagement or abuse
You must take immediate action to stop the person who is perpetrating the financial mismanagement or abuse. As a tutor or the tutorship council, you must do this when you witness or are informed of such a situation involving the represented person.
Here are a few tips that can help you spot financial mismanagement or maltreatment:
- sudden withdrawal of large amounts of money from the represented person’s bank account or an increase in the number of bank transactions;
- sudden changes to important documents (ownership deeds);
- fraudulent investments;
- depriving the represented person of essential care;
- signs of injuries or burns on the represented person;
- fear of speaking openly by the represented person.
Filing a report with the Curateur public
Filing a report essentially involves notifying the Curateur public of a situation that could pose a threat to the safety and well-being of a person under tutorship or cause damage or harm to their property. As the tutorship council, you must bring such situations to the attention of the Curateur public.
A report may also be filed by someone close to the represented person or by an organization. The Curateur public will process any reports it receives concerning represented persons.
To find out how to file a report or what the Curateur public does when it receives a report, go to File a report with the Curateur public.
