Recognition of skills acquired abroad
After submitting your financial assistance application
After you submit your financial assistance application, you will receive a message in your Arrima account:
- If your application is complete, you will receive a message confirming whether or not you are eligible for financial assistance.
- If your application is not complete, you will receive a message asking you to provide the missing documents.
Participation in courses and internships for sub-streams 2A, 2B, and 3B
Attendance at your courses or internship is compulsory. To continue to be eligible for financial assistance, you must:
- Actively participate in your courses
- Comply with the rules of the educational institution
- Report absences or any other change in your situation to the Ministère
You could lose access to your financial assistance, have your file closed by the Ministère and have to repay any excess amounts received if:
- You have five or more unjustified absences in the same month
- You had more than 10 business days of excused absences in a given month;
- You exhibit behaviours that interfere with your learning or that are contrary to the key values of Québec
- You do not report your absences to the Ministère
Non-school or work periods for sub-streams 2A, 2B and 3B
Financial assistance is provided for one or several non-school or work periods in the training schedule, to a maximum of 15 business days, i.e.:
- Breaks;
- Reading weeks;
- Pauses between terms of a given study program;
- Summer holidays.
Financial assistance for the non-school or work period concerned depends on the training duration and program sub-stream, and must be determined as follows:
| Duration of refresher training | Maximum non-school or work period covered by the financial assistance | ||
Full-time training | Part-time training | Unpaid internship | |
| Less than 30 weeks (approximately seven months) | 5 business days | 5 business days | 5 business days |
| 30 to 39 weeks (7 to 9 months) | 10 business days | 5 business days | |
| 40 to 62 weeks (9 to 12 months) | 15 business days | 10 business days | |
For the end-of-year holidays, financial assistance is maintained as is for a maximum of 10 business days.
Financial assistance is not paid for a non-school or work period that does not feature in the refresher training schedule (for example: for personal or family reasons), unless the reason is approved by the Ministère, in which case financial assistance is maintained as is for a maximum of 10 business days.
Failure to pass a course or internship in sub-streams 2A, 2B and 3B
If you fail a course for which you already received financial assistance, you may receive financial assistance to retake the course only once. Financial assistance may be provided for you to retake no more than two failed courses.
