Home charging station
Installation of the home charging station
The invoice for the installation of the charging station must be included with your application for government financial assistance.
You may have your charging station installed:
- On an exterior wall of your home
- Inside a garage
- On a pedestal.
Work performed by an electrician
In Québec, the Construction Code requires that electrical work be carried out by an electrical contractor holding a licence from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec.
Consult the directory of the Corporation des maîtres électriciens du Québec to find electrical contractors in your area.
Installing a 240-volt charging station by a master electrician is a simple operation, similar to installing an outlet for a stove or a dryer, or a welder outlet in a garage.
Costs will be higher if you need to upgrade electrical distribution panel of your dwelling or bury the electrical cable because the charging station is not installed on the wall of your home.
Do not hesitate to contact multiple contractors to compare installation costs.
You will be required to provide a copy of the invoice for the installation work when you submit your application for government financial assistance, as proof that the charging station has been installed.
Check the required information on the invoices.
Existing 240-volt outlet
If you already had a 240-volt outlet outside your home or in your garage, and it complies with current regulations, it may not be necessary to involve an electrical contractor, depending on the charging station you have chosen.
If this applies to you, you will not be able to include an invoice for the installation work. You must provide one or more photos as proof of installation.
Level 1 and level 2 charging stations
If your charging station supports both level 1 and level 2 charging, the installed electrical connection must be suitable for a level 2 charging station.
The invoice for your installation work must specify that the electrical installation is suitable for a level 2 charging station.
