About of the Chauffez vert program

The Chauffez vert program is administered by the Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs.

Financial assistance for the conversion of oil or propane heating systems under the Chauffez vert program has been available since October 29, 2013. 

The program has provided nearly $90 million in financial assistance to help more than 64,000 Québec households convert their oil or propane heating systems to electricity. This represents a reduction of 350,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year.

The Chauffez vert program is part of implementation plans for the Plan pour une économie verte 2030. It aims to support the transition to electricity in residential buildings, the conversion from natural gas to electricity, and dual energy systems for peak demand management.

The conversion component for oil or propane heating systems under the Chauffez vert program will end on March 31, 2026, after being in effect for more than 12 years.

Since December 31, 2023, the regulations prohibit:

• installing an oil-fired heating appliance;
• replacing an oil-fired heating appliance with a heating appliance that runs on a fossil fuel (including fossil-based or renewable natural gas). 

Owners of residential dwellings must complete all conversion work and have submitted their application for financial assistance by March 31, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.

The supporting documents and social insurance number required for the payment of financial assistance must be submitted no later than June 30, 2026.

Any application that does not meet the conditions related to the end of the conversion component for oil or propane heating systems will be refused.

It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure that the program administrator has received their registration request prior to the end of the oil or propane conversion component of the Chauffez vert program.
