Choosing the right contractor to convert an oil or propane heating system
To be eligible for the Chauffez vert program, the dismantling of a fuel furnace (oil or propane) and the installation of a new heating system must done by qualified, certified contractors.
Plan your project
To complete your project, you will have to choose:
- a new heating system for your home
- a new water heater (if applicable)
- a contractor to perform the work
Take the time to do some reading before planning your project.
Watch out for fraudsters!
We never do telephone solicitations or door-to-door canvassing for the Chauffez vert program.
We urge you to be vigilant if anyone contacts you, or knocks on your door, to offer services related to the government's Chauffez vert grant.

Choosing a contractor
Make sure you choose a contractor with the expertise and certifications required to carry out your work.
Licences held by the contractor
Before you sign with a contractor, ask for their RBQ licence number issued by the Régie du bâtiment du Québec.
Check that your contractor is certified by consulting the Registre des détenteurs de licence (in French only) on the Régie du bâtiment du Québec website.
- Your contractor's licence number must appear on the invoice you enclose with your application for financial assistance.
- Their licence must include the category and sub-category corresponding to the work they intend to perform on your premises.
- Only general contractor in construction can subcontract the services of a specialized contractor for certain jobs (e.g. electrical or plumbing).
