Eligible homes and owners for the Chauffez vert program

The Chauffez vert program is designed for owners of single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes and small residential buildings.

End of financial assistance on March 31, 2026

Government financial assistance for converting a central heating system from oil or propane will no longer be available after March 31, 2026. 

Attention, you must have completed your work and submitted your application for financial assistance before this date. 

No application for financial assistance received after March 31, 2026 will be accepted.

Eligible homes

The following types of homes are eligible:

  • Single-family homes (detached, semi-detached, row or mobile homes)
  • Duplexes
  • Triplexes
  • Multi-unit residential buildings

To be eligible, the building must have no more than three storeys and a maximum projected floor area of 600 m².

The home must also meet the following criteria:

  • Be habitable year round;
  • Be located within the territory of Québec;
  • Be supplied with electricity by Hydro-Québec’s main grid, a municipal or cooperative network.

To be eligible for the Chauffez vert program, the home must also meet the following criteria:

  • Have alternating current electrical service distributed throughout the home;
  • Be supplied with drinking water either from the municipality or a private source;
  • Be served by a municipal sewer system, a private septic system or a holding tank.

Buildings located in municipalities supplied by off-grid systems for electricity production and distribution are not eligible for the Chauffez vert program.

Eligible applicants

You must be the owner of the home or residential building where the work is being carried out to be eligible for the Chauffez vert program.

You can be:

  • an individual;
  • a company;
  • a syndicate of co-owners;
  • a band council;
  • an estate;
  • a trust.

A mandatary duly authorized to act on behalf of an owner may submit an application for financial assistance in the owner's name.

You can apply for Chauffez vert financial assistance for each home you own.

Financial assistance available for other types of buildings

If your building is commercial or mixed-use (residential and commercial), it is not eligible for the Chauffez vert program. 

However, you may be eligible for financial assistance under the ÉcoPerformance program, provided your work has not yet been completed.

The ÉcoPerformance program provides financial support for projects to replace an oil or propane heating system with an electric heating system in:

  • mixed-use buildings (residential and commercial);
  • commercial, institutional or industrial buildings;
  • large residential buildings (4 or more storeys, over 600 m2 projected floor area).
