A new home built to Novoclimat standards is more expensive to purchase but allows its occupants to achieve annual savings on energy costs compared to a house built solely according to the Quebec Construction Code.

The Novoclimat financial assistance granted to the first owner of each certified house helps offset a portion of these additional costs. In addition, the estimated annual energy savings—20% compared to a standard new house—allow the remaining additional cost to be recovered in just a few years in most cases. A Novoclimat certified home is inspected during construction by a Novoclimat evaluation advisor. This evaluation ensures compliance with the highest energy efficiency standards.

The Novoclimat program requires insulation that exceeds current standards. The continuous installation of high-performance insulation from basement to attic offers better protection against cold and delivers superior energy performance.

The walls and roof are built using higher-performing construction techniques, which increase the airtightness of the home.
