Amount of financial assistance for an individual charging station in a multiple dwelling

The financial assistance granted to an electric vehicle owner for the purchase and installation of an individual charging station in the parking area of a multiple dwelling may reach a maximum of $5,000.

Amount of financial assistance

The financial assistance granted for an individual charging station in a multiple dwelling includes:

  • a fixed amount of $600 for the purchase of the charging station;
  • an amount equal to 50% of eligible expenses related to the installation work for the charging station and the electrical infrastructure required for its operation, in certain cases.

The total amount of financial assistance granted may not exceed $5,000.

To be eligible for the amount equal to 50% of eligible installation expenses, you must reside:

  • either in a triplex or a quadruplex built before October 1, 2018;
  • or in a multiple dwelling with five or more units built before September 26, 2026.

In addition, the building owner or the condominium syndicate must not have received an incentive under the Écorecharge program for upgrading the electrical infrastructure.

The financial assistance is paid in a single payment, once the charging station is installed.

Building construction date

The building’s construction date is taken into consideration to determine whether the installation work qualifies as an eligible expense.

Triplex and quadruplex

Since October 1, 2018, the Québec Construction Code has required that triplexes and quadruplexes be equipped with the basic electrical infrastructure needed for the installation of level 2 charging stations.

If you live in a triplex or a quadruplex built after October 1, 2018, the installation work for your charging station will therefore be simplified. Your installation costs will not be considered eligible expenses.

Note: The “basic electrical infrastructure” present in the building and in the parking area of your multiple dwelling may be insufficient to immediately connect a charging station. Additional work may be required—consult a master electrician.

Multiple dwellings with five or more units

For buildings with five or more units, the Québec Construction Code will require the installation of the basic electrical infrastructure required for the installation of level 2 charging stations at all parking spaces when construction of the electrical installation begins on or after September 26, 2026.

Going forward, if you reside in a multiple dwelling built on or after September 26, 2026, your installation costs will not be considered eligible expenses. You will only be eligible for an amount of $600 for the purchase of your charging station.

Work already subsidized under the Écorecharge program

It is possible that the owner of your multiple dwelling or the condominium syndicate has already carried out electrical infrastructure upgrades in the building or common parking areas for the installation of charging stations.

If this electrical infrastructure upgrade work was subsidized under the Écorecharge program, then the installation costs for your individual charging station will not be considered eligible expenses. You will only be eligible for the $600 amount for the purchase of your charging station.

If the owner of your multiple dwelling or the condominium syndicate received a subsidy under the Écorecharge program solely for feasibility analysis of a charging solution, the installation costs for your individual charging station may be considered eligible expenses. You could receive up to $5,000 in financial assistance for the purchase and installation of your individual charging station.

Where to start?

If the charging station installation project is being carried out by the owner, the property manager, or the condominium syndicate, it may qualify for financial assistance under another component of the Écorecharge program.

Consult the page Where to start to learn more.

Promotion or rebate received on a charging station

If you received a promotion, for example from your dealer, vehicle manufacturer, the charging station manufacturer, or your municipality, and this promotion covered part of your acquisition costs, you may not be eligible for the government financial assistance.

If this promotion covered the entire cost of acquisition, you are not eligible for the government financial assistance.

Make sure you have an invoice in your name showing the purchase of the charging station, its actual price, and the promotion or rebate applied. The amount you actually paid must be indicated on your invoice.

You must have spent at least $600 (before taxes) on the purchase of your charging station to be eligible for the government financial assistance for an individual charging station in a multiple dwelling.

Exclusion of taxes from calculations

The amount of financial assistance is calculated based on eligible expenses before taxes. The amount of tax is not eligible for the incentive.
