Conditions to be met

You must follow all the conditions of the program to be eligible for government financial assistance when you purchase a new electric vehicle.

In the event of non-compliance with the conditions of the program, the Québec government can demand the repayment of the financial assistance granted.

Conditions governing new vehicle purchases

In addition to being included on the list of eligible new vehicles, your vehicle must:

  • be registered for the first time in Québec;
  • not have previously been registered outside Québec;
  • be purchased or leased for 12 months or more in Canada.

You can, therefore, purchase your new vehicle from a dealer in Québec, a dealer in another Canadian province, or on the Canadian website of an automaker, if you comply with all the conditions of the program.

Minimum registration period

If you obtain the rebate for a new electric vehicle intended for personal use, it must be registered in Québec for a minimum period of 12 months.

In the case of a new electric vehicle purchased for a vehicle fleet, i.e., three or more vehicles purchased in the fiscal year, the minimum registration period in Québec is 36 months.

Long-term leasing

The government rebate is also offered for the long-term leasing of an eligible new electric vehicle:

  • the duration of the lease determines the amount of the rebate;
  • the leasing period must be for a minimum of 12 months;
  • the rebate for a leasing period of 48 months or more is equivalent to the purchase rebate.

Concerning electric motorcycles and scooters, the government rebate is offered solely for the purchase.

The list of eligible new vehicles provides details of the lease rebate amounts.

Applicant’s profile

To benefit from this financial assistance, individuals must reside in Québec.

Businesses registered in the Registraire des entreprises that operate and possess an establishment in Québec, Québec municipalities, and public bodies established in Québec are also eligible for this financial assistance.

  • 2,000 km for electric motorcycles;
  • 1,000 km for electric scooters.

All the other conditions of the program must be met.

Ineligible vehicles

The program rules stipulate that a new electric vehicle is ineligible for financial assistance if it was:

  • converted to electric motorization;
  • acquired with the aim of reselling or leasing it long term at the time of the transaction;
  • registered prior to January 1, 2020.
