Financial assistance for electric vehicles
About the Roulez vert Program
The Roulez vert financial assistance program is offered by the Gouvernement du Québec to encourage the acquisition of electric vehicles and the installation of charging stations.
The Program is open to individuals, companies, organizations and municipalities in Québec.
Provided all the program’s conditions are met, financial assistance is available to help participants with:
- the acquisition of a new electric vehicle;
- the acquisition of a used electric vehicle;
- the acquisition and installation of a home charging station;
- the acquisition and installation of a multi-unit charging stations;
- the acquisition and installation of a workplace charging stations (in French only).

The Program’s normative framework sets out the conditions to be met, along with the eligibility criteria and all the administrative rules applicable to the current version of the program.

The content of the normative framework has legal value.
The conditions for participation in the Program are summarized on the website. However, the content of the normative framework takes precedence at all times over any leaflets or other information that may be published about the Program.
The Gouvernement du Québec may demand repayment of the financial assistance if the recipient fails to comply with the Program’s conditions.
Recent changes
Changes were made to the Roulez vert Program when the normative framework was updated on April 8, 2023.
The Program website is up-to-date and reflects these changes.
- The maximum manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MRSP) threshold for a new electric vehicle to be eligible for financial assistance has been increased from $60,000 to $65,000. This condition applies retroactively to all eligible electric vehicles registered since April 1, 2022.
- The detailed list of eligible new electric vehicles has been updated.
- A limit of two applications per dealership in any given financial year has been added for electric vehicles registered in the dealership’s name.
- Used electric vehicles now qualify for the financial assistance if they are between one and four years old (compared to three or four years old under the previous rules).
- The rule requiring a used electric vehicle to be covered by a new vehicle guarantee valid in Québec, including conditions applicable to the battery, has been removed.
- The detailed list of eligible used electric vehicles has been updated.
- A limit of two applications per dealership in any given financial year has been added for electric vehicles registered in the dealership’s name.
- Buildings with three or four units built before October 1, 2018, are now eligible.
- Financial assistance is now available for admissible expenses relating to:
- Professional service fees incurred for the design of charging solutions and the preparation of plans and specifications;
- The cost of purchasing a device or software application to manage the energy used to charge electric vehicles;
- The cost of the permits needed to carry out the installation work.
- The maximum amount of financial assistance per fiscal year has been increased, depending on the type of applicant and the building itself.
- Charging stations for which Program funding is granted can now be used by the eligible applicant’s visitors, provided its residents still have priority.
- It is now possible to use a turnkey charging service. Companies providing this service have been added to the list of eligible applicants.
- It is now possible to mutualize (share) the use of charging stations with up to three enterprises.
- The maximum annual amount of financial assistance has been increased from $25,000 to $49,000.
- Financial assistance is now available for admissible expenses relating to:
- Professional service fees incurred for the design of charging solutions and the preparation of plans and specifications;
- The cost of purchasing a device or software application to manage the energy used to charge electric vehicles;
- The cost of the permits needed to carry out the installation work;
- The costs incurred to adjust component ratings with a view to meeting future usage needs.
Amounts of financial assistance
The Gouvernement du Québec may change the conditions of the Roulez vert Program and the amounts of financial assistance.
The Gouvernement du Québec announces the funding for the Roulez vert Program each year in its updates to the Plan pour une économie verte.
The Roulez vert Program is financed by the Fonds d’électrification et de changements climatiques.
